Eliza Montour is Mohawk from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. Eliza is committed to offering legal services to her community on Six Nations and surrounding areas.
Eliza was called to the Ontario Bar in July 2006. Eliza completed both her degrees, L.L.B. (2005) and B.A. (2002), at the University of Windsor. In her third year of law school, Eliza participated in the Intensive Program in Aboriginal Lands, Resources & Governments at Osgoode Hall Law School – York University, completing her field placement with a sole practitioner with expertise in Aboriginal law.
Eliza articled and worked for the Chiefs of Ontario 2005-2007. Eliza joined the Union of Ontario Indians Legal Department in October 2007, as the Treaty Research Lawyer, working exclusively on First Nations Specific Claims. In 2011, Eliza returned to Six Nations and joined Porter Law Office as an Associate. Eliza’s focus was on family law matters until she accepted a political appointment with Chief Ava Hill, Six Nations Elected Counsel in January 2014. Finding that she missed the court room and engaging with clients to help them find resolution to their legal issues, Eliza opened Montour Law in March 2015. Montour Law focuses primarily on family law including divorce, equalization, custody, access, support, and child protection but also offers services in criminal law in those cases where there is a family law element. Given the location of her practice, her past professional relationships and her clientele Eliza continues to educate herself and keep appraised of developing law in Aboriginal issues.
